Although we know that you will enjoy every minute of your stay at Lake Harmony, we are also a perfect place to use as your home base to easily take in all of the attractions near by. Within 45 minutes you can be on River Street in Savannah, or taking in the ocean waves on one of our beautiful islands. Jacksonville, FL is an easy drive just south of us. And there are many great stops in between.

Whether you’re chasing sunsets, birds, ocean waves, history, activity, or pure relaxation you are in the right place to find it all and much more!

There are endless things to do and see in the Golden Isles. Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island, Little St. Simons Island, and Sea Island are a group of barrier islands off of our coastline that are called the Golden Isles. This also includes the city of Brunswick.

Rent bikes and ride the miles of trails on Jekyll Island. Rent a golf cart to explore St. Simons Island. Take a stroll on the beaches and soak in the salt air. Tour through the waters and beautiful marshes by kayak or boat. Who says that you have to pick just one golf course, play a round at all of them. Enjoy every meal at a different restaurant and never run out of delicious local fare to indulge in.

Plan your stay around one of the many local festivals that are held around the area all year long. You’re sure to find something that will make all members of your vacation party happy!

We are fortunate enough to be located in an area that is very rich in history. Step back in time…way back in time to the 1700’s. Savannah was established in 1733, making it the oldest city in Georgia. Closer to home, our charming community of Darien was established in 1736, making it the 2nd oldest.

Visit our coast’s oldest English fort which is Fort King George located right here in McIntosh County. Take a ferry ride to beautiful Sapelo Island and learn about the Gullah Geechee Heritage. Tour the historic Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation nestled in stunning moss covered live oaks. Or spend the day in Savannah hopping on & off one of their trolley busses that will take you by their stunning historic buildings and parks and allow you time to get off to eat, shop and further explore on your own time.

These are just a few of the many ways that you can immerse yourself in our amazing history.

Finding a great restaurant in our area is no problem! In Coastal Georgia, we support our local fisherman. No shrimp in the world tastes as good as a Wild Georgia Shrimp!

We have a couple of options just down the road from the park or take a short ride down to the historic town of Darien, where you will find several options to choose from that serve up delicious local seafood, steak, & more. The historic district of Brunswick also has many great restaurants.

If you want to venture a little further down the road, St Simons Island has a long list of delicious restaurants that you don’t want to miss out on.

You will be able to find something to fulfill whatever type of cuisine you are craving. We have a list in the office if you want to get some suggestions.

If adventure is your speed, you can easily fill your days exploring the area and finding great experiences around every corner.

We highly recommend taking a tour with Georgia Tidewater Outfitters located in Darien. Whichever tour you choose with them, you will get to enjoy beautiful scenery on our waters and learn so much about our area. It’s a must for sure!

You can continue your adventures on water by checking out the Okefenokee Swamp or spending the day at Summer Waves Water Park.

If you prefer to keep your feet on land take a swing at Sapelo Hammock Golf Club or take a stroll through the beautiful Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens.

Coastal Georgia has an abundance of wildlife that are fun to check off your list. You can see many different species of birds and turtles at the campground or venture out on nearby trails or the islands to see some of the bigger wildlife like alligators & dolphins.

A great place to start is at Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge, which is only 20 minutes from the park. There are miles of trails that can be driven, walked, or good for bike riding. This area is refuge for more than 240 species of birds, 20+ species of mammals and many types of reptiles and amphibians.

Another great resource for nearby trails is the Colonial Coast Birding Trail.  Here you will find links and a map to 17 different nearby trails between Tybee Island and St Mary’s.
